Bright ruby. Smoke-accented cherry, dark berry and licorice scents show a hint of pepperiness and a suggestion of garrigue . Chewy and densely packed, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors and a refreshing jolt of smoky minerality. Chewy tannins give shape to a focused, spice-tinged finish that leaves a hint of cherry pit behind.

The 2014 Gigondas is medium-bodied, fresh and elegant, with firm tannin, moderate depth and classy notes of dried earth, dried strawberries, cherries and spice. The blend here is always 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Cinsault, and the elevage is 18 months in concrete tanks.
(raised entirely in concrete vats): Brilliant ruby-red. Vibrant, mineral-tinged cherry and red berries on the fragrant nose. Subtly sweet raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors tighten up slowly and show excellent clarity. Picks up a hint of spicecake with aeration and finishes nervy and gently tannic, emphatically echoing the floral note.
Tasted blind. Cask sample. Palish crimson. Light and fresh. Sinewy with some grainy tannins and marked acidity. More like tart strawberry juice than Gigondas? (JR)
