All of the 2014s from this estate are downright impressive and well worth seeking out. My favorite of the 2014s was easily the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Les Sables de La Crau, which is always 100% Grenache, from sandy soils on the la Crau plateau. It’s partially destemmed and aged all in demi-muids, and in 2014, it has the most depth and richness of the lineup; it’s up with the crème de la crème of the vintage, as well. Framboise, strawberries, spice box, dried herbs and toast all flow from this full-bodied, elegant, gorgeously polished Châteauneuf du Pape that is just filled with pure Grenache love. Drink it anytime over the coming 7-8 years.

Brilliant ruby-red. Deep-pitched aromas of red fruit preserves, cola, incense and Asian spices gain vivacity from a smoky mineral element. Stains the palate with intense raspberry and cherry compote flavors that spread out slowly with air while picking up a sweet floral pastille nuance. Sappy and pliant on the finish, which hangs on with noteworthy tenacity and building spiciness.
Similar to the Prestige cuvée, with more depth and richness, the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape les Sables de la Crau knocks it out of the park with its gorgeous aromas of cassis, wild strawberries, kirsch, licorice and crushed flowers. Medium-bodied, elegant and seamless with fine tannin, it has solid Provençal charm and is all about purity and elegance.
