Tasting notes
Equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from east and west-facing expositions of chalk and clay that harmonize with each other, the 2016 Champagne Blanchien Extra Brut was raised for 12 months in barrel and then under cork for sur latte aging. A bright yellow hue, it’s gorgeous on opening, with classic, ripe notes of shortbread, floral perfume, ripe Mirabelle plum, cashew, and cherry liqueur. Full-bodied and rounded, with a refined and pillowy mousse, this fantastic wine displays power and grace, with a long, persistent spine of acidity and a core of concentration. Rich yet balanced, it should improve over the coming 5-10 years and have a wide drinking window over the coming 15 or more years. Brut Nature with zero dosage. Disgorged July 2022.
