Run since 1993 by brothers Emmanuel and Charles Fourny. Nearly every wine made here is from Vertus, from 76 separate parcels in this premier cru village at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs. The domaine went from grower-producer (RM) to négociant (NM) in 1979. More than 10 ha (>25 acres) are owned, supplying about 50% of needs. A mix of tanks and wood is used, in total over 200, 228-litre burgundy barriques. This is 100% Chardonnay. Blend of Vertus and other premiers crus. Vines over 40 years old. 75% stainless steel, 25% in barrel. Three consecutive vintages blended. 20% reserves. Dosage 0 g/l. Rather heady with floral notes. Broad and quite chewy. Not overtly Chardonnay – heavier somehow than most. Workmanlike rather than inspiring. Very slightly stodgy. But certainly well intentioned. (JR)

100% Chardonnay. 75% tanks and 25% wood, three consecutive years blended, with 20% reserve content. Two years on second lees. Dosage 0 g/l. A bit dull with a note of bubblegum. Candyfloss (cotton candy) too! Strange for a wine with zero dosage… (JR)
100% Chardonnay. Selected plots, including older vines from Monts Ferrés in Vertus. Time on lees after first fermentation and high maturity grapes. Zero dosage. Tiny oak-aged component. Medium intensity. Dry but not austere with some richness of flavour. The merest hint of ginger-beeriness. Something to get your teeth into! (JR)
The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Nature is 100% Chardonnay bottled with no dosage. It is a gorgeous, striking wine endowed with layers of pure, crystalline fruit. Mint, flower, sweet herbs and minerals are some of the notes that meld together on the seamless finish. This is a pure, utterly impeccable wine. This is Lot L 7807, disgorged June 7, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. Veuve Fourny is one of Champagne’s many under-the-radar producers that deserve to be better known.
