Bright violet. Dark berries, pungent flowers and smoky minerals on the nose. Concentrated cherry and blackberry flavors, along with a spicecake quality that builds with air. Rich yet lithe, delivering strong closing thrust, very good persistence and repeating spice and floral elements.

The 2014 Morgon (Domaine des Perelles), which was 50% de-stemmed, is anonymous on the nose despite rigorous coaxing. The palate feels a little raw on the entry, with hard tannin and a jarring sour note coming in toward the tapered finish.
