Tasting notes
The 2008 Blanc de Blancs Brut 1er Cru is a classic Veuve Fourny Champagne; focused, energetic and a bit austere - in the best sense of the word. Lemon peel, almonds, chamomile, slate and wild herbs abound. Deep, vinous and explosive in the glass the Blanc de Blancs has it all. The flavors are vivid in the 2008, which is remarkably translucent for such a big wine. Beams of incisive minerality and acidity cut across the vivid finish. Disgorged: 04/2014.

Disgorged March 2014. Rather heady and ripe on the nose and then some real corset of structure. Tastes as though some oak may have been involved?? Lively and interesting without being a complete knockout. (JR)
(all Vertus fruit; 4 g/l dosage ): Pale gold. Fresh pear, lemongrass, white flowers and chalky minerals on the intensely perfumed nose, with a leesy element adding depth. Juicy, sharply focused citrus and orchard fruit flavors are fleshed out by suggestions of melon and honey and pick up a floral quality with air. Packs a solid punch but comes off as lithe, finishing with excellent cut and length and lingering stoniness.
The 2008 Millésimé Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru has a brillant yet restrained bouquet of limes, herbs (melissa) and green apple skins and seems somewhat reduced. Very clear, firm and dense on the palate this is a lean, aromatically greenish and stringent Champagne with a lot of lime flavors and energy. The purity and length promise a great future.
