Score 93-95/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

From gneiss and mica soils, Prieler's 2015 Schützen am Gebirge Ried Goldberg Leithaberg Blaufränkisch is deep, pure, fresh and elegant on the nose where perfectly ripe dark fruit, black tea and flinty aromas are displayed. Plummy (skin) and sweet tobacco notes appear after a while in the glass. This highly elegant, fresh and juicy-intense yet crunchy Blaufränkisch was aged in 500-liter barrels for 20 months before it finished aging in a 2,300-liter cask; it was only bottled in August this year. The 2015 is generous, silky and wide but linear and fine, a quiet wine that shows its crunchy tannin structure only on the finish. This is a great Blaufränkisch with stimulating acidity. It is still very young and astringent on the finish but impressive and with great aging potential. After a longer while in the glass, this highly delicate and alluring red reveals fresh red berry aromas and Burgundian finesse. Silky, finessed and fresh, this is a great wine from chalky soils. Tasted in Purbach, August 2018.
