Score 17/20 · Drink 2022-2027, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Apr 2022

Tasted from a 7.5-cl mini sample bottle. Certified Ecocert organic. Third-generation Christoph Neumeister practices long maceration on skins, spontaneous fermentation, long lees contact and late bottling. RS 1 g/l, TA 5.8 g/l. Green melon and mint, turning peppery between nose and mouth. Really herbal, but in a way that feels and tastes as if tiny motes of semi-dried kitchen herbs have been tossed up into a great cloud in the open air. Wild gorse bush, wet bracken, moor-stream pebbles and the taste of soft rain. Minty thyme on the finish. Really firm structure carved into strong angles by the acidity, but without any screeching tones. Well-modulated. Neumeister is making some pretty complex, distinctive Sauvignons. I really like what he is doing. (TC)

Tasted from a 7.5-cl mini sample bottle. Certified Ecocert organic. Third-generation Christoph Neumeister practices long skin maceration, spontaneous fermentation, extended lees contact and late bottling.  Savoury, herbal opening playing on all stages from fresh to dry. Green pepper, celery. The palate is dominated by citrus pith vibrating in texture and tone. Exceptionally complex, and – at this stage – mildly cacophonous. Yet, from the hands of Christoph Neumeister, a winemaker who understands the value of leaving room for the wine to find its voice, I have no doubt that this Sauvignon Blanc will be making beautiful music very soon. Vinified in large oak casks, the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Ried Moarfeitl is a classic that opens with a pure, intense, elegant and beautifully spicy bouquet. Ripe and dense but elegant and seamless on the palate, this is a supple and juicy yet fresh and stimulatingly energetic Sauvignon with a powerful, still pretty phenolic and greenish finish that asks for patience and trust. It's not really great fun to enjoy today (at least if served straight from the bottle) but certainly has enough substance, finesse and intensity to remain optimistic. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in November 2021.

Fresh mint, apricot, yellow grapefruit and cassis pour from the glass. Concentrated and elegant, this has wonderful focus and clarity, the power very much underplayed. Long, very bright finish with plenty of rock-salt character and herbal freshness. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
