Bright ruby. Raspberry, lavender and spices on the highly perfumed nose and in the mouth. Offers an array of sappy red fruit flavors that put on weight with air and pick up a sexy floral pastille nuance. Fine-grained tannins give shape to a long, floral- and spice-accented finish. Showing impressive finesse and appeal today, in a vaguely pinot way.

With the majority of the grapes previously destined for this cuvee now going into the Télégramme, and the L’Accent de la Roquète now getting the crème de la crème of the estate, 2010 is the last vintage for the Domaine La Roquette Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre, it possesses a silky, sexy profile of leafy herbs, olive paste, roasted meats, and sweet red fruits to go with a medium to full-bodied, supple, and silky textured palate. Very polished and with no hard edges, it can be consumed now, or cellaring for 5-8 years.

Vivid ruby. Sexy aromas of spicy red berries and potpourri, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Juicy and very fresh, offering intense raspberry and cherry flavors given depth by a suggestion of candied licorice. Finishes sappy and long, with resonating florality and an echo of red fruit.

Lieux-dits Roquette, Colombis, Pignan and Pielongs. 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. 10 months in foudre, 10 months in concrete. 80,000 bottles. Mid ruby. Sweet, light open nose. Then some quite tough, drying tannins intrude. A little heat on the end. Not harmonious and a bit scratchy but it may mature into something more harmonious. (JR)
