Another wine showing beautifully, was the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape. Made from 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah and Cinsault, it has a classic and Provencal bouquet of caramelized meats, blackberries, garrigue, honeysuckle and smoke. Ripe, full-bodied, textured and layered on the palate, with both elegance and richness, it's one of those wines that starts out slightly understated, yet grows on you with each sip. Drink it anytime over the coming 4-6 years.

An outstanding wine, the 2006 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a complex, nuanced bouquet of licorice, spice, leather and garrigue to go with its stony, mineral laced fruit. The palate is medium bodied and shows a firm texture, nice balance and clean, edgy finish.

Ruby-red. Exuberant raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by anise, rose, baking spices and smoky herbs. Offers an intriguing blend of sweetness and spice on the palate, which offers pliant red berry and bitter cherry flavors with cinnamon, white pepper and lavender pastille accents. Finishes with a strong echo of red berries and impressive clarity. This is delicious now.

Saturated ruby. Spicy raspberry, cherry and dark berry aromas are deepened by mocha, licorice and garrigue Deep, creamy and rich, offering dense kirsch and cassis flavors, velvety tannins and a broad, sweet finish. Showing a lot of ripeness and luscious depth today. This reminded me of a wine from Collioure, but with greater vivacity.
