The most harmonious wine in Geoffroy’s portfolio this year, the 2015 Terre Cumières Premier Cru, is—as always—the product of barrel and cask selection based on comprehensive tastings, followed by an extended maturation period sur lattes. As the selection is different from year to year, the assemblage is never identical—and can even be reversed. In 2015, however, it comprises 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. Sourced from 50-year-old vines in Cumières and matured partially in new oak (including a new Stockinger cask), it was disgorged in July 2024 without dosage, though it retains 1.25 grams per liter of residual sugar. The bouquet is expressive, offering notes of dried orange peel, apricot, crisp pear and spice with a faint hint of sage. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and pillowy, with bright acidity and a taut, chalky core leading to a long, saline finish. As is typical for this estate, the wine undergoes no malolactic fermentation—a stylistic hallmark that, while present, is less overt here than in some other cuvées, and that subtlety is meant as a compliment. Terre was not produced in 2013 or 2014, so its return with the 2015 vintage should come as no surprise to attentive followers of this grower-bottler.
