Score 92/100 · Drink 2012-2022, Robert Parker, Feb 2004

The black/purple-colored 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Generations reveals a heavy overlay of espresso roast, toasty vanillin, creme de cassis, and black cherry liqueur. Unevolved, backward, full-bodied, and massive on the palate, with flavors mimicking the aromatics, it boasts extraordinary density and purity as well as a super-extracted, broodingly backward, frightfully intense personality. It should be forgotten for 7-8 years ... at the minimum. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. Importer: Bercut-Vandervoort, Brisbane, CA; tel. (415) 562-1132
