Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Neal Martin, Jan 2023

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Ormes 1er Cru feels just a little closed compared to its peers, a bit bashful with light raspberry and briary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of black pepper, though there is no stem addition here, quite linear and strict towards the finish. It just needs a bit more verve.

25% whole clusters, 30% new oak. Cask sample. Mid-pale cherry. Slight pinch of CO 2  and a touch of reduction, too? A little stern and austere, hiding its fruit a little today. (MH)
