Savoury with a certain mineral streak which is quite unusual for a Californian Chardonnay. Very persistent finish. Well done! (JR)

I found the 2000 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir to be extremely tart, high in acid, light to medium-bodied, and nearly under-ripe. Readers who enjoy extremely tart Chardonnays will rate it higher than I did. It is unquestionably well-made and clean, but for me, it is the most disappointing Mon Plaisir tasted to date. Tel. (707) 942-4459; Fax (707) 942-0209

Slightly hazy. Subtle aromas of peach, flowers, grapefruit and soft citrus fruits. Rich, chewy and deep, with lemon and mineral flavors complicated and sweetened by hints of exotic fruits (but the tropical side of Gauer Ranch has been toned down in 2000, notes manager Bill Vyenielo). Firm acids and the wine's minerality give it a brisk, dry finish.
