Tasting notes
Deep red. Pungent, mineral-driven aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, potpourri and cured meat. Sweet and supple on the palate, offering vivid red and dark berry flavors, fully absorbed tannins and an intriguing note of candied flowers. Already quite alluring but also balanced to age.

The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape is a super example from this vintage. Copious quantities of earthy roasted herbs, ground black pepper, licorice, and black cherry aromas jump from the glass of this dense ruby/purple-tinged wine. Full-bodied for a 2006, with deep, chewy flavors, and plenty of Provencal typicity, spice, fruit, glycerin, and extract, it should drink beautifully for a decade or more. This is a strong trio of Chateauneuf du Papes from proprietor Claude Chastan. Various American importers, including: J A O Wine Imports, McLean, VA; tel. Very dark and exceptionally glowing. Tense, high toned nose, almost more garagiste St-Emilion than Châteauneuf. Leathery with hints of liquorice. Very round – very ‘worked’ fruit. A lot of effort has gone into making this an impressively modern Châteauneuf aged in fourdres. Not one for traditionalists but you have to admire the effort. (JR)
Very pale. Honeysuckle hints on the nose and very lively but with quite fierce acidity. (JR)
