From Mag and opened 4 hours before quickly decanting and then drinking over the evening. Showing the wilder, gamey side of Chateauneuf, the 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Grappe des Papes has a big nose of barnyard, sweat and earth mixed with cherry, herb and forest floor notes. The palate is medium bodied, slightly weak on the backend but still showing beautiful texture, sweet fruit and a medium to long finish. This continued to improve with air, losing the majority of the funk and showing more and more beautiful fruit notes and filling in on the mid-palate.
