The 2009 Beaune Clos de la Mousse 1er Cru offers red cherries, leather and a slight metallic note, showing a bit of reduction that I would not anticipate on a 2009. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, dark berries mixed with orange rind and black pepper, though it attenuates towards the finish when I would like it to fan out. Tasted at the Bouchard Père tasting in London.

More bricky but still lots of red. A little more subtle than the 2016 Clos de la Mousse but still deeply red fruited. Good concentration and richness of fruit and yet more austere than I'd expect for a 2009. More densely structured. More ageing potential. Really doesn't want to be drunk now. (JH)

Medium red. Red cherry, raspberry, menthol, earth and a whiff of caraway seed on the slightly muted nose. Silky and ripe but a bit medicinal, with nicely integrated acidity framing the flavors of red cherry, earth, tobacco and fresh herbs. Finishes with a light dusting of tannins and a hint of greenness.

Bright and translucent. Fresh spicy cherries. Quite light on the mid palate, supple and fresh but not worth the premium over the Beaune du Château. (JH)
