The 2008 Champagne Special Club Brut is also 70% pinot noir and the remainder Chardonnay, once again all from the chalk soils of Ay. Here the nose takes on a more focused approach, with some lime citrus oil, orange blossom, and wet river rock. There is also a bit of custard pastry on the nose. Drink over the next 2 decades.

The 2008 Brut Spécial Club offers fine depth and lovely complexity to match. Red plum, kirsch, spice, dried flowers and chamomile build effortlessly. There's certainly plenty of immediacy. At the same time, the 2008 does not look like it is built for the long term. I would prefer to drink this over the next few years at most. Disgorged: April, 2022.
