Score 95-97/100 · Drink 2027-2038, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Sep 2025

The 2018 Arbois Pupillin Chardonnay was still unbottled and in a 1,500-liter foudre because the wine took forever to ferment; it went on until late 2024! The vines delivered low yields, 15 hectoliters per hectare, and it was a very warm year in the region, similar to 2003. The wine is very concentrated but surprisingly salty. It's clean and fresh, with a smoky twist. The plan is to bottle it toward the end of 2025 or in early 2026, after seven years of élevage.
