Vivid magenta. Vibrant, spice- and mineral-laced black and blue fruit aromas show sharp focus and pick up violet and licorice notes with air. Sappy and concentrated in the mouth, offering juicy blueberry, boysenberry, olive and spicecake flavors firmed by a spine of tangy acidity. Blends power and vivacity with a steady hand and finishes long and minerally, with finely woven tannins building in harmony with the wine's vibrant fruit.

Bottled at the end of August and from the up and coming Seyssuel region located north of Ampuis, the 2016 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes L'Ame Soeur is a charming, rounded, sweetly fruited effort that boasts terrific ripeness in its blackberry and raspberry fruits as well as plenty of minerality and floral characteristics. This is a warmer terroir of rocky, schist soils, and while the wines always have a riper style, I always find a terrific sense of minerality in the wines. This is well worth seeking out and is going to keep for a decade.

Ogier planted his Seyssuel vineyards in several phases, beginning in 2001. The 2016 L'Ame Soeur Syrah de Seyssuel is the best example of this cuvée yet, combining subtle vanilla notes with raspberries, blueberries and tea leaves in a complex, seamless fashion. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky, sexy and long on the finish.
