I was surprised by a barrel tasting of most of the future vintages of Les Vignes de Mon Père, the groundbreaking Savagnin that is aged for 11 years in topped-up 600-liter oak barrels with no added sulfur and has reshaped the landscape of the ouillé whites from Jura. We started with the more-recent 2019 Les Vignes de Mon Père, produced with grapes from the best vineyard in Rotalier, Champ Bernard, on the rare schiste carton soil, marl with a laminar texture that looks like carton. It is very closed, a lot more closed than any of the 2019 whites I also tasted. It comes through as salty and nuanced, if very subtle, with a super-salty palate. It's deep, powerful and intense but also terribly balanced, super straight and direct. It still remains with seven grams of sugar, so it's been a super slow fermentation, but the high acidity makes the wine feel dry. It still has a long way to go, as it should continue aging until at least 2030. This is like reading a crystal ball...
