Tasting notes
A brilliant-looking barrel sample based on 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre brought up mostly in concrete, with just 5% in barrel, the 2017 Gigondas Les Dessous Des Dentelles offers classic darker, almost blue fruits as well as complex sappy garrigue, pepper, and rose petal/floral aromas and flavors. It’s balanced, has polished, silky tannins, and is loaded with potential.

Hints of mint and garrigue perfume the nose of the 2017 Gigondas Les Dessous des Dentelles, a blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, most of which is aged in tank (5% goes into barriques). Those herbal notes are balanced by cherries, raspberries and stone fruit. Full-bodied, creamy and lush on the palate, this beauty turns softly dusty on the finish, with a discrete hint of dark chocolate.
65% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Cherries and a touch of violet floral character on the nose. Furry, chunky tannin. Slightly warm to finish, which conflicts with the floral lift – but is not incongruous to the style by any means. (RH)
