Tasting notes
The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru has an attractive floral bouquet that opens nicely in the glass with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, dried roses and Japanese nori. It is actually quite Chambolle in style. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannins and pure red fruit with orange zest and Morello cherries. This is open, a Morey with little intention for long-term ageing but is quite delicious in its flush of youth. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

30% stems, less than usual. Yields 20% down. Tank sample. Light to mid crimson. Gorgeous, classic Morey aroma: a combination of Chambolle’s pretty floral, red-fruited scent and the slightly peppery note of Gevrey. Intense, taut, juicy and perfectly balanced between definite but not-obvious tannins and all that delicious Morey fruit. Intense and elegant at the same time. (JH)
The 2021 Morey Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru contains around 50% whole bunches compared to 75% in previous years. It has an airy bouquet with dark berry fruit, Earl Grey, clove and light loamy scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, light white pepper notes, gaining weight with a very harmonious finish that lingers in the mouth.
