Score 87/100 · David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Aug 2005
The 2004 Riesling Smaragd Steinertal smells of tart apple, peach and grapefruit, with a hint of pungent smokiness. The tart impression persists on the palate, with faintly bitter peach kernel, juicy citrus, and flowers. The finish displays green apple and peppermint with a vivid note of wet stone. The wine is long and juicy, but rather constricted in its range of expression and sense of ripeness.
