Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2032, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, May 2021

Fermented in open wooden fermenters prior to the élevage in 600-liter barrels for 24 months, the 2012 Blaufränkisch Reihburg "R" displays a deep ruby color and opens with an intense and seductive yet fine and elegant bouquet of perfectly ripe dark berries and tart black cherries intertwined with graphite, toast and earthy-slatey as well as subtle herbal notes. Very noble and complex indeed. Full-bodied, intense and fresh on the palate, this is a charmingly fruity, highly refined and silky-textured red with remarkably nervy acidity and very fine tannins. The finish is fine yet firm, very long and complex. This is Blaufränkisch at its best. It drinks perfectly right now, yet there is no hurry to finish your stock. Tasted in 2020.
