Score 90-92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

(from heavily millerandé vines situated above the village portion of Les Chenevery that goes into the Ligniers' Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie cuvée ): Healthy dark red. An element of reduction dissipated to reveal complex scents of cranberry, red raspberry, red licorice, spices and smoky mineralilty. Juicy, spicy premier cru with urgent red fruit intensity and noteworthy thrust, if not quite the depth of the Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes. This fruit was entirely destemmed but the tannins are still quite firm. Still, this wine has the sweetness of fruit to offer relatively early appeal.

The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Chenevery was completely de-stemmed, because Laurent Lignier told me that this area naturally produces a lot of tannin and color. It has a complex bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and light sea-spray aromas that are well defined, pressed flower scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, plenty of energy and very good density towards the detailed finish. Look out for this once in bottle, because I can envisage this ageing with style.
