Score 88/100 · Drink 2013, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2008

The 1999 Brut Rosé Cuvée Louise is also rather light in color, but here the wine's candied, super-ripe notes play a more central role in the wine's balance. The 1999 is made in a more overt, fruit-driven style that shows quite a bit of richness but lacks the sheer verve of the 2000. Ultimately the 1999 comes across as heavy and excessively sweet.

Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013. This large, venerable estate makes a wide range of wines, the best of which is the Cuvee Louise. The estate does not disclose disgorgement dates, but in general the wines receive six to nine months on the cork prior to be being released. Importer: Vranken Pommery America, New York, NY; tel. Very very pale – the palest salmon pink imaginable. Very fine and delicate and lively. Great balance – really lively but with interest too. A very complex wine – unusual for a rose! Lovely drink with no rough edges. (JR)

Medium pink with a fine bead. Elegant, precise aromas of fresh, floral-inflected red berries and pear complicated by a whiff of blood orange. This is suave and silky on the palate, with its sweet red fruit and peach skin flavors underscored by tangy but gentle acidity. An understated, pure rose with a subtle smoky, toasty note slowly appearing on the back end. Balanced to age.
