2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Signature

Rocking levels of kirsch, blackberries, spring flowers, violets, and ample peppery, sappy garrigue nuances all define the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Julien Barrot. It's medium to full-bodied, with the estate's fresher, focused style, beautifully integrated acidity, and ripe yet fine and firmer tannins. Drink 2025-2035. Run by siblings Julien and Laetitia Barrot, Domaine Barroche has been a family estate since 1703, when Alexandre Barrot first purchased land in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their father Christian managed the estate starting in the 1970s, selling most wine in bulk to négociants until Julien joined in 2002. Since then, the estate has become one of the brightest stars in the appellation, yet the style has evolved significantly over the past decade, moving away from the richer, more Provençal style of earlier vintages towards a leaner, fresher approach emphasizing purity and focus, sometimes at the expense of a little pleasure. This evolution was accompanied by the construction of a new state-of-the-art cellar on the southern end of the village, a dramatic departure from the labyrinth of their old facility. The estate farms around 15 hectares in the northern and northeastern parts of the appellation, with half of their Grenache vines more than 100 years old, some of the oldest in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The range includes the traditional Châteauneuf du Pape (previously labeled as Cuvée Julien Barrot, with 2023 being the last vintage under that name), the Pure red (100% old-vine Grenache from Grand Pierre, Pointu, and Rayas parcels), Pure Blanc, and Liberty (a Vin de France from 1947 vines just outside the appellation).
