Score 89/100 · Drink 2014-2021, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2011 has an outgoing and expressive bouquet with touches of tropical fruit infusing the citrus lemon and lime flower aromas. With further aeration there are hints of white peach and pink grapefruit emerging. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a slightly waxy texture, but the finish comes across as smudged and missing the tension that the aromatics deserve.

Highly complex nose shows red berries, mint, butter, anise, white flowers and a whiff of tarragon. Quite backward in the mouth, but with noticeable energy and tactile concentration to the flavors of pear, menthol and minerals complicated by marrowy and iodiney nuances. Not a thick or particularly fruity wine but delivers sexy sweetness and finishes firm and long. Built to reward aging.

The 2011 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Marquis De Laguiche is quite subtle in this vintage. Floral notes meld into pear and white peach notes. The 2011 lacks some of the overtness that is typical of this wine, but in exchange, readers will find a supple, inviting Morgeot that will drink well with minimum cellaring.
