Score 88/100 · Drink 2021-2026, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Jan 2021
Looking back at my notes from previously tasting the same wine in South Africa last year, I feel the need to amend my score for this bottling and vintage. Performing superior to last year's tasting, the 2017 Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a red-fruited nose that offers elements of dusty plum, currant and cassis with an underlying green herbal tone that floats out of the glass with elegant oak spices and a subtle rocky minerality. Medium to full-bodied, the wine grips the mid-palate with structuring tannins, elements of graphite and dusty blackberries, ending with a tannic edge and mineral-laced finish. Give it one more year in bottle before opening and drink for the next 5 to 6 years.
