A fantastic value, the 2007 Domaine La Roquette Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre, all from clay soils and aged in a combination of vat and tank. It delivers lavish aromatics of ripe red and black fruits, new leather, baking spices, and a touch of olive. Medium bodied with loads of ripe, round fruit, solid balance and a long finish, this outstanding wine should drink beautifully over the next 10 to 12 years.

Ruby-red. Pungent aromas of blackberry preserves and plum, with licorice and tobacco notes adding complexity. Showing a more serious personality than it did from barrel, offering weighty dark fruit flavors and a velvety texture. Tannins build with air and add grip to the long, smoky finish. This is acting like a 2005 right now.

Deep ruby. Very ripe, exotic aromas of boysenberry, kirsch, olive, garrigue and anise. Broad, fleshy and sweet, offering weighty dark berry compote and spice flavors and gentle tannins. This sexy, velvety wine will drink well young but the concentration to age.

Grenache Noir 70%, Syrah 10%, Mourvèdre 25%. First 10 months in cement and then wood of various sizes. Very dark crimson. Quite exciting nose with energy there. Liquorice and gouleyant fruit with some tarriness. Quite dry on the finish, but it's a more interesting wine than most. (JR)
