To my palate, the 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Séchets is the finest of Louis Michel's premiers crus this year, unfurling in the glass with aromas of lemon oil, oatmeal, honeycomb and dried white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textural, with superb cut and tension and a long, saline finish. It's well worth seeking out.

(the first parcel harvested in 2016, with the Vaillons coming in on the afternoon of the same day): Medium yellow. Lower-toned aromas of apricot, honey and earth. (At this point in our tasting, Gicqueau-Michel noted that the 2015s were more "solar" at the same stage but these 2016s strike me as pretty plump and sweet.) Fat and ripe, with a repeating honeyed quality to its apricot fruit. A bit soft but possesses good mid-palate stuffing. Finishes round, horizontal and a tad warm. Will this premier cru gain in clarity and shape?
