Score 90/100 · Drink 2003-2017, Robert Parker, Feb 2003

The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape (the Weygandt cuvee) exhibits sweet peppery black cherry and loamy earthy notes with leather, spice box, and Asian soy-like characteristics. The wine is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. It is an opulent, fruity as well as expansive, broodingly backward effort that can be drunk now or over the next 12-14 years. This is serious stuff. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel (610) 486-0800

Ruby-red. Exotic aroma of candied red fruits. Fat and thick but also penetrating and primary, with good acidity and grip. This has structure and verve. Finishes with fresh red fruit flavors and slightly tough tannins.
