The 1999 Château de la Gardine Châteauneuf-du-Pape possesses a slight roasted profile with a nutty, ripe nose of scorched earth, asphalt, dark fruit and spice notes. The palate is better with medium to full body, a ripe, mouthfilling texture and a long finish. I’d drink these over the next couple of years.

Revealing evidence of sur-maturite, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Grand Siecle has the extract of a vintage port. Although thick, and revealing evidence of new barrels, it has not lost the typicity of Chateauneuf du Pape. However, it is a powerhouse ... very tannic, concentrated, and inky purple in color. This wine will need at least 5-8 years of cellaring, and will keep for 25+ years. Importer: Bercut-Vandervoort, 211 South Hill Dr, Brisbane, CA 94005 Ph: (415) 562-1132; Fax: (415) 562-1142
