“The heat wave (canicule in French) struck the vineyards of Beaune worst of all as that micro-climate didn’t receive a drop of water throughout the summer,” said Nadine Gublin, and her words were borne out by the hard-as-nails Beaunes Greves and Champs Pimonts. However, the aromatically complex 2003 Beaune Clos de la Feguine (red) somehow escaped that fate. This waxy black cherry-scented wine is medium-bodied, sweet, and lush. It reveals enticing jammy red cherries that lead to a slightly firm, yet not unappealing, finish. Drink it over the next 3 years.
