Tasting notes
A beautiful Fronsac, the 2023 Clos Du Roy offers ripe red and black fruits, spring flowers, graphite, and leather nuances on the nose. Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and aged 12-14 months in 33% new French oak, it's medium-bodied and nicely balanced on the palate, with plenty of background oak and outstanding length. Give it a few years and enjoy over the following decade. I'd happily drink a bottle. Drink 2029-2038.

The 2023 Beaune Clos de Roi 1er Cru was picked toward the beginning of the harvest. This has a lovely nose of lifted wild strawberry and cranberry fruit with just a touch of leather. The palate is well balanced and fresh with crisp acidity and a nicely detailed finish. This has lower alcohol at 13% and it shows.
The 2023 Clos du Roy has a perfumed nose of red berry fruit with wild hedgerow and light bay leaf scents, perhaps needing just a little more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins, well balanced with pretty, savory red fruit and a slightly meaty finish. This is not a long-term proposition, but it is nicely proportioned.
