Tasting notes
From two old blocks on the Paardeberg, planted in 1966 and 1980 on decomposed granite soils. Aged mostly in concrete, part in used 500-litre barrels. A little oak on the nose and lots of lime on the palate. An exciting wine! (JR)

Chenin from two vineyards planted in 1966 (80%) and 1980 (20%), 2 km from each other, on decomposed granite. Very, very low yields. Fermented and aged in 20% 500-litre oak barrel and 80% concrete. Smells like apple mint and lemon verbena. And lemongrass. Salty! Tastes like pineapple pressed into sea glass into white wax. Vintage linen texture and just dancing with flowers and grass seeds and sedge and rush and like the thinnest slivers of citron and something samphire and maritime. Stunningly complex and thrilling. The 2023 Kameraderie is a single-parcel Chenin Blanc from the Paardebery, 80% planted in 1966 and the rest in 1980. It was aged in 500-liter barrels and concrete on the lees. This has quite an intense bouquet with yellow plum, lanolin and touches of sage and fennel. The palate is well balanced with a slightly petrolly entry, fine delineation and tension, and hints of stem ginger toward the finish. Excellent.
