Score 91/100 · Drink 2024-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2025

This vintage saw a very small crop because of uneven flowering, and as much as 30% of the fruit was dropped. The Bouchard Finlayson 2017 Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Pinot Noir Tête de Cuvée Galpin Peak Estate Wine comes from a site with 20-year-old vines. It offers an earthy note of talcum powder or shaved mica rock. There is a uniquely dusty or powdery element to the bouquet that is given more prominence as the wine opens in the glass. This wine stood out in this tasting for its unique complexity and offbeat bouquet.
