Tasting notes
Cut from the same cloth but with perhaps a touch more breadth and concentration, the 2023 Rasteau Cuvée Prestige is based on 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre and aged 18 months on fine lees in 100% foudre. Black cherries, new leather, sappy spring flowers, and pepper are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's another brilliant Rasteau from this estate. Drink 2026-2038.

Matured in foudres, the 2023 Rasteau Prestige is showing very well during my visit. It opens with expressive aromas of violet, dark wild berries, cassis and rose. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and seamless on the palate, it offers a fleshy core of fruit supported by bright acidity on the finish. Compared to its counterpart matured solely in concrete tanks, this rendition is notably more velvety, concluding with a distinctive licorice-inflected finish.
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Aged for 18 months, 75% in foudre and 25% in concrete tank. In conversion to organic. Cask/tank sample. Tasted blind. Bags of red fruit on the nose. A juicy palate with spice and red fruits, quite chunky at the moment with a compact core and firm tannins. Needs time to settle but lots of purity and energy behind this wine. (AC)
