Based on 59% Grenache, 23% Syrah, and 18% Mourvèdre and aged in 50% foudre, 30% used barrique, and 20% concrete, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape offers an incredibly Provençal perfume of black cherries, mulberries, garrigue, and assorted floral nuances. It's medium-bodied and shows good mid-palate concentration, ripe tannins, and outstanding length on the finish. This impeccably made Châteauneuf du Pape has more mid-palate depth than most in the vintage. It comes from a mix of terroirs, and there are roughly 6,666 cases produced. Drink 2025-2040.

Partially destemmed and matured in a mix of foudres (50%), used barrels (30%) and concrete tanks (20%), the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine des Sénéchaux is a lovely effort, opening with aromas of dark wild berries, cherries, mulberries, flowers and garrigue. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and sappy, it reveals a fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a long, fresh and ethereal finish. Harmonious and refined, this blend of 59% Grenache Noir, 23% Syrah and 18% Mourvèdre is a real success.

Tasted blind. A striking nose with a sense of mineral freshness. The palate also has zip and liveliness. Not hugely concentrated, which is no bad thing! Engaging and enjoyable. (AC)

Red and black plum, red cherry and licorice introduce the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Full-bodied and round, this is a fruit-driven and juicy Sénéchaux that won’t require as much time to come around as the more structured 2022. This closes with sweet-tasting red fruits on the uplifting finish. I look forward to tasting it again from bottle.
