Checking in at a whopping 16% alcohol, the 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix is a shimmering pale ruby. It mingles aromas of ripe red and black fruits, exotic spices, licorice and crushed rocks. Ripe tannins wrap up this full-bodied, concentrated powerhouse, well-balanced by refreshing acidity. It closes with a savory, persistent finish.
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Mourre Des Perdrix comes from slightly more sandy soils around the estate and is 69% Grenache, 15% each Syrah and Mourvedre, and a splash of Cinsault. Ripe cherries, dried raspberries, spice box, Provençal herbs, and savory flower notes all define the bouquet, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is always the most seamless and finesse-driven of Charbonniere’s releases, and while it will drink well on release, it has the capacity to evolve for 15-20 years.
