Tasting notes
One of the standouts in the vintage, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Rarefied Air is all Cabernet Sauvignon from a blend of sites (which are never revealed) that spent 22 months in barrel. Ripe black (as well as some blue) fruits, gravelly earth, graphite, and smoky tobacco all define the aromatics, and it's more inward and tight than most 2022s on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, a pure, focused, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a great finish. This thrilling 2022 has the depth, concentration, and structure to evolve for a solid two decades. Bravo.

While owner-winemaker Mike Smith doesn't disclose the sourcing of this bottling, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Rarefied Air tastes similar to the To Kalon. Black cherries join raspberries, dusty earth notes and hints of cinnamon and star anise on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is deep and richly concentrated, somewhere between velvety and silky in feel, with a long, dusty finish.
