A 50-50 tank-aged blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2021 Lirac la Dame Rousse easily combines notes of cherries and blueberries on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied in the mouth, with a taut, tense feel, silky tannins and a long, peppery finish.

Tasted from multiple samples, the 2021 Lirac showed well, with a bright, juicy, ripe, medium-bodied style. It has the vintage's fresher, elegant profile but is certainly ripe, has supple tannins, and a great finish. It's going to drink nicely right out of the gate. Looking at the vintages reviewed here, the estate compared 2020 to a mix of 2019 and 2018, commenting that their 2020s were less concentrated than their 2019s, which I wholeheartedly agree with, although I feel their 2020s still have plenty of structure. The 2021s show the fresher style of the vintage but don’t lack ripeness and have plenty of texture. As usual, all of these wines are impeccably made and worth seeking out.
50% Grenache, 50% Syrah. 20-day maceration. Matured in stainless-steel tanks. Tasted blind. Youthful and primary aromas – fresh dough, liquorice. Good acidity here with floral notes and dark berries lurking beneath a cloak of fine tannins – good concentration of fruit that needs time to intertwine with the tannic weight but should integrate nicely.
