A blend of unknown proportions of Carignan, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2022 La Clape la Falaise displays a deeper, more complex and riper bouquet than La Côte, evoking aromas of flowers, iris, dark cherries, spices and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, layered and round, it's deep and elegant, with a rich core of fruit, a slight warmth from the alcohol and a long, spicy finish. It was crafted from vines planted on clay, limestone soils facing northeast.

Ripe black cherries, melted licorice, peppery herbs, and some exotic floral notes all emerge from the 2022 La Clape La Falaise, a juicy, medium to full-bodied, elegant red revealing terrific fruit, ripe tannins, and both richness and freshness. I love it today yet see no reason it shouldn't evolve for 8-10 years if well stored.

Full bottle 1,400 g. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre. The Syrah is vinified in wooden cuves, and the Grenache and Mourvèdre are vinified in cement tanks. Aged for 12 months in a mix of oak vessels. Very peppery! But the spiciness is amply served by generously ripe black-cherry and blackcurrant fruit. The tannins are long, limber and luscious, tinged with black olive, wrapped languid around the glossy black fruit. The finish is peppermint fresh, spiced with caraway, long and carrying a cheeky note of amaretto. The (big) alcohol is well hidden. Château La Négly has somehow managed to carry it off. (TC)
