The 2021 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is slightly deeper in colour. Like Domaine de la Vougeraie's Bâtard, there is a heavy reduction on the nose with a hint of whisked egg whites, although that recedes with aeration. The palate is suppressed by the reduction and heavy oak, toasty and missing some éclat towards the finish. It will be interesting to see how this matures in bottle. Initially a little heavy-handed, more winemaking than wine, but the mineralité shines through after 30 minutes in the glass and it begins to glisten. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru entirely transcends any of the vintage's perceived limitations, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, citrus oil, white flowers, toasted nuts, gunpowder smoke and nutmeg. Full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, it's layered and concentrated, with terrific depth and cut, concluding with a long, expansive finish.
The 2021 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru had quite a lot of reduction on the nose when I tasted it at the Domaine. The palate is where the action is: intense citrus fruit, frangipane, lemongrass and crushed stone, gaining weight towards the finish with wonderful persistency. This seems to grow in the glass. Superb.
