Tasting notes
The 2019 Rosso San Giorgio is a spice box on the nose. Dried black cherries and sage complement incense and exotic spice aromas. This displays silken textures offset by a tinge of black tea bitterness and depths of tart red berry fruits, all guided by a steam of brisk acidity. The 2019 finishes perfumed, leaving hints of raspberry and violet inner florals. Open-knit tannins provide a lovely framework for the experience. The San Giorgio is an equal-part blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon refined in French barriques, 20% new.

A blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 San Giorgio (in a heavy glass bottle) shows exceptionally well. This is a beautiful edition of the wine, from a vintage that saw good growing conditions throughout. The fruit flavors are profound and defined with blackberry, cassis and plum over a velvety, full-bodied mouthfeel. San Giorgio ages in barrique, and there are dustings of cumin and cinnamon with velvety tannins as a result.
