Partly aged in oak barrels, the 2022 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Chimères stays fresh and vertical, with perfectly integrated oaky notes. A Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan blend, the wine displays ripe black fruit, licorice, and sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon). Fresh, balanced, generous, and full-bodied, despite its intensity, it remains very nuanced. The finish has refreshing salty and mineral notes, pimping up the ripe fruit. This definitely is a great wine to pair, for example, with Angus beef, and it certainly has the potential to age gracefully a few more years. Decanting is recommended. Drink 2025-2035. Situated in the Agly Valley, on the terroir of Maury, Château Saint-Roch cultivates 44 hectares of vineyards. The terroir is composed of black schist and clay-schist slopes with a limestone base, varying in altitude between 120 and 470 meters. Acquired in 2006 by the Lafage family, the estate has remained separate and continues to produce wines under its own name.

With an oxidative, ripe bouquet, the 2022 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Chimères reveals aromas of spices, spice box, cigars and chocolate mingled with toasty notes. Medium to full-bodied, enrobing and sweet, it's structured and concentrated, framed by a rich, creamy core of fruit and structured tannins, concluding with a firm finish that's a bit hot. This is a rather demonstrative, powerful wine.
