Tasting notes
The 2020 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is more muted, though it is well-defined with attractive, nuanced crushed stone and marine scents, plus a hint of Granny Smith. Returning after ten minutes, it reveals a little more mineralité , yet it remains backward for the moment. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It's tensile and nervous, though there is a touch of white asparagus towards the spicy lemongrass-tinged finish. This is a Chablis that holds my interest, and I am intrigued to see how it evolves in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru comes from three parcels and taken was directly from used barrel. The elegant bouquet features orange blossom, yellow flowers and a light minerally scent that emerges with time. The palate is just lovely: beautifully defined, cohesive and poised, with tangible mineralité and touches of white peach and fennel on the saline finish. Great potential.
