(all destemmed; 50% new oak): Bright red. Musky aromas of strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant. Densely packed and juicy, conveying excellent sappy lift to the wild red berry flavors. Not yet especially intense--in fact this is a fruit bomb today--but the wine's energy and whiplash of a finish suggest that it will blossom beautifully with time in the cellar.

The 2013 Clos Saint Denis Grand Cru was aged in 50% new oak (using Michel Touton as this cooper imparts less oaky flavor.) It has a backward and broody nose that will need three of four years in bottle to come out. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, well-judged acidity and body, the oak coming through on the finish but in sync with the fruit. The spicy finish is quite persistent, rounding off a decent Clos Saint Denis.
