The 2016 Páramos de Nicasia Tinto is a young, aromatic, expressive, almost floral expression of ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines on sandy soils. It's ripe without excess and has a juicy and round palate where the flavors are ripe and the tannins fine-grained and a little dusty. This contains Garnacha, Tinta de Toro and also white Malvasía grapes, the bunches of which were fermented with indigenous yeasts and without the addition of any product. It matured in used oak barrels of different sizes for 16 months. 12,665 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2018.

Biodynamic. Gorgeous nose – a kaleidoscope of pomelo, honeyed wheat beer, yuzu, sorrel, constantly shifting in the glass. Masses of tangy, mouth-filling, vibrant energy. Acidity that whizzes across the mouth, exploding with lemon meringue and warm sour-dough bread intensity. A wine for chicken tagine with pickled lemons, or salmon with a lemon, turmeric and honey sauce, or a Keralan fish curry. GV (TC)

Verdejo and Malvasia grown in Toro and given a little bit of flor. They are trying to get official recognition for Vino de Pueblo but for the moment this has to be categorised as Vino de España. Nutty and tangy and full of fruit – a bit more obviously fruity and slightly more mainstream than the Leonila but still with masses of appeal and lots of distinction. Green apples this time and a lighter flor influence. (JR)
